Yorkville has long been a vibrant and prestigious area of upscale homes and luxury shopping. Yorkville was originally named after the Town of York and was developed in the 1830s by Joseph Bloor, a local brewer and the founder of Rosedale, Sherriff William Jarvis Botsford. The area was initially incorporated as a village in 1853 for history buff, the Yorkville coat of arms is displayed on the tower of the Yorkville Fire Hall.  1960's brought a freewheeling youth movement to the area and it became the host of poets and musicians before evolving in the 1980's and 1990's into the shopping mecca that is is today.

Yorkville sits in a tight little pocket stretching between the bustling Bloor Street on its south border to Davenport Road in the north, Yonge Street sets the eastern border and Avenue Road the west. Luxury condominiums, five-star hotels, thriving office towers, gourmet restaurants and luxury shopping centres create a rich and exciting neighbourhood. For those living in the area, or those seeking to live in the area, the hustle and bustle is always an arms-length away. Most of the area properties are set away on beautiful mature tree-lined streets. Many of the homes in the Yorkville area were built between 1870 and 1895 and are listed on the Toronto Historical Board's Inventory of Heritage Properties.

Shopping is a big draw for both residents and visitors alike. Bloor Street, Yorkville Avenue and Cumberland Street showcase the best in designer fashions with Holt Renfrew on Bloor Street a unique area anchor with Hazelton Lanes providing a luxury mall experience. The Metropolitan Toronto Reference Library and the Royal Ontario Museum are nearby and well within walking distance. Yorkville is ideally located within walking distance of the Bloor/Yonge subway station on the Yonge-University-Spadina subway line and the Bay station on the Bloor-Danforth subway line. For those commuting by car, the Don Valley Parkway is approximately five minutes from Yorkville.
